Whiskey Weigh-in

So, here is our oh-so-clever way of measuring the little girls growth - comparing her to a Whiskey bottle (in this case it's a Whisky (no "e") because it's Scottish. The first photo is from a week ago.
The next two photos are from this weekend. As you can see, she's bigger. And we've consumed a fair amount of Whisky.

Unaged Whiskey

My friend J. fostered Whiskey for a week or so before she came to live with us. J's parents fell in love with her too, and today sent me some photos of her from a few weeks ago - so we can see how much bigger she is. We've also come up with a very clever way to measuring her growth - stay tuned!

Grannykat sends gifts!

My mom, or Grannykat, as she likes to be called, is a champ at making things. When we told her we had adopted Whiskey, she told us she was going to make the little girl a blanket. She also made a blanket for each of the cats, so they wouldn't get jealous. Everyone's blanket has their name on it, just to avoid confusion. As you can see, they were 66% an instant success.

Whiskey girl on blanket. Hmm...that floor needs cleaning.

Snooze

Teryx, the larger of our two cats, is a master nester. She's been hanging out on top of my dresser ever since the arrival of the pup. I put her blanket up there, and - instant success!

Our other cat, Caspian, was not enticed by the blanket. However, Caspian really doesn't like anything or anyone (part of her charm). She preferred to hang out on top of the fridge.

Why Whiskey?

B. and Whiskey in repose

We've gotten a few questions as to why we named the little girl Whiskey. I do a lot of work in aviation, which uses the phonetic alphabet. Instead of saying "A, B, C, etc", you say "Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc" It's so that you don't mix up similar sounding letters such as "P", "B", "C", etc. So, the phonetic spelling for W is Whiskey. We just liked that name. But, I've since found that that's a bit of a long story to tell folks, so I just say instead, "we went with what we knew".

Whiskey Shots

So....we got a dog. What kind of dog, you ask? A three-legged one. So here's the story....
Our friend J. was in Arizona, shadowing a vet at the Humane Society. J is in vet school. She called me up and asked, "hey - do you want a three-legged puppy?" I gave the appropriate answer....."Maybe.....". So, after a lot of details, J flew to Saint Paul with the puppy, and then we drove J back to Madison. I realize that there are puppies to be adopted here in the Twin Cities, but this just happened. I promised everyone pictures and updates of the little Whiskey girl, especially J and her parents, who fostered her for a week and became very attached to her.
She's about 10 weeks old - I put her next to a beer bottle for size comparison. You can also see that there is a leg missing. Apparently, someone dropped her off at the Humane Society in Phoenix with duct tape on her back leg. When the vet took it off, all the skin and fur came off, and her leg bones were all broken and sticking through the skin. So, off it came. They spayed her while they were at it. What a deal!
We really don't know what kind of dog she is. Here are some of the ingredients people have suggested so far: Australian Shepard, Jack Russel Terrier, Corgi, Regular Terrier, Collie, and Pit Bull. Feel free to add your own suggestions.
More to come - but I promised I would get some shots of her out.
